Guitars
G&L ASAT Classic Custom (ca. 1996-1997) #CL03014
In 2006, Scott received his primary electric guitar for studio recording and touring as a gift from his long time musical collaborator and baking wizard Nathan Hamlin. This beautiful G&L “Telecaster”-style features: 2 MFD pickups, 22-fret bird’s eye maple neck and fretboard, ash cap, alder body with back contour, tobacco sunburst finish, chrome hardware, custom volume and tone knobs, 4-ply white pearl plastic pick guard, and traditional boxed steel bridge with 6 individual saddles.
Oscar Schmidt OG2N Dreadnought (1996) #9604882
A hand-me-down twice over, Scott received this Oscar Schmidt dreadnought as a gift from friend and illustrator Eric Wieringa circa 2001. In the studio and on tour, it is kept in Scott’s tuning (FAC#FAA). It features: spruce top, catalpa back & sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard & bridge, chrome die cast tuners, fully adjustable truss rod, natural matte finish, missing pick guard, Graph Tech TUSQ bridge pins, and a Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural II pickup.
Amplifiers & Effects
Amps & Cabs – iOS App
Amps & Cabs™ is an guitar amplifier emulation app for the iOS platform. The app is made by Ground Up Audio, a company co-founded by Scott in 2009 to make apps for the iPhone®, iPod touch®, and iPad®. Currently, Scott runs Amps & Cabs on an iPhone 4 and gets his guitar signal in and out of the iPhone with a custom audio interface. For live performances, Scott does not use traditional guitar amps, only the signal coming from the app. Amps & Cabs is only $0.99 on iTunes!
Harmonicas
Hohner Special 20s and Shure 520DX “Green Bullet”
Scott plays a set of Hohner Special 20 harmonicas in a handful of different keys through the classic Shure 520DX “Green Bullet” harmonica microphone. Usually the harmonica signal is simply run “dry” or through a basic delay. To mount the microphone on a stand Shure recommends the A27SM shock mount meant for the KSM27 microphone. For those looking for good harmonica lessons, try these YouTube videos by Adam Gussow (KudzuRunner).
Live
Life on the road requires minimal and compact gear. Here are the essential items for the road. Scott does his own mixes on stage, sending a stereo feed to the house system or his own simple PA when the house system is inadequate.
