I met Ryan in Cleveland, Tennessee when the Betts Sisters helped me assemble the “Oceans of Blood” orchestra heard on All Is Sideways. Ryan was quickly shuffled into the very small office we used as our makeshift recording booth. We said our hellos, I explained the process, Ryan played the trombone part, and then she left to make room for the next player. We shared only a few minutes together, but those moments are captured in that recording.
Ryan Colbert is currently studying Music Education and Vocal Performance at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. She began studying trombone in 2005 when she joined her middle school band. In high school, she participated in various instrumental clinics such as All State East Senior Clinic, and All East Jazz Band, as well as All East and All State Choir. She was first chair in the Wind Ensemble for three years, and lead trombone in the jazz band.
Ryan has performed roles in many musicals such as, Seussical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wizard of Oz, and Oklahoma.
In college, she was chosen to march with the University of Tennessee’s “Pride of the Southland” Marching Band, and will be performing in the Fall 2012 opera, La Boheme.
I would like to thank Scott for this amazing opportunity and for giving me the chance to play his beautiful music. I can’t imagine a better, stress-free, recording session!
